new Website
So what does everyone think of the new official website ?
Me, I think it is ok, but Official websites are rarely as good as the fan sites (here, Jon's, etc).
Covers the basics, news, has a forum, etc.

Okay, so now the website looks a little better than before, but it's already being spammed with viagra ads, and something about buying small arms
from Tanzania?! And how long before FW starts asking again "Who played keyboards on In The Clouds?" for the tenth time, and various others start in
yet again with "Which was better 'Peace' vs. 'Electric'?" A better question would be: Which is worse, the spammers or the same idiotic chit chat
from before?
Again, at least the site does actually *look* better now than the "place holder/ all white" website they had before, but it remains to be seen if
the CONTENT of the website will make it worthwhile.

some viagra for sale

Apparently, the webmaster has fixed the spam problem. So no more schlongs for super imposed Britney/Paris/Jessica.
From what I understand Homer, you may be surprised with the new forum.

I sincerely hope that I am surprised with the site Ed. For a band that has said as much and hopefully has as much more to say as The Cult, and with
such an inspired and inspiring singer as Ian, it really was sad and tragic and pathetic to look at their official website and see ... well, ...
basically nothing but white. Oh, yes, and a purple wolf banner at the top. And a generic block lettering used for the font. Yippee.
Edcult, question:
Is there any word on which specific countries 'Born Into This' is being released in? I have Cult records/ cds/ tapes from places like Malaysia,
Thailand, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Sweden etc., and I'm wondering is this this record going to have the same worldwide release as the earlier Cult
records had?
edit: by the way the band photo now on the site is fantastic, the best photo I've seen of the band and specifically Ian in a LONG time.

Yeah, looks like they cleaned it up a bit...
....and made it with stark contrasts. Looks rather generic for the "official" website.
That "Talk to The Cult" section is gone which is fine with me (which went down like Lead (sic) Zepplin. Hopefully, it won't become a cluster f#@k
like the last one with the same old questions or posts where everyone knows the answer.
Hey Homer! If one were to kick it to Florida for a gig; which venue(s) would be worth the "bang" in gang, so to speak.

I'll check with the guys at RR Canada. Something tells me there is a U.S/Canada release and an International to cover the rest of the globe.
Oh yeah, for anyone who was wondering about the SE being released on the 2nd? Its in stores in Canada on the 2nd, so I would imagine it'll be in the
U.S. also.

The Lake Buena Vista/ Orlando HOB would probably be the best venue of the three in Flariduh. I saw the Cult there in 2001 and it was a great venue
with a great atmosphere- FAR superior to Jannus Landing. Can't say one way or the other about the Ft Lauderdale venue as I've never been there
before.

Yeah,.. the House of Blues in Orlando is a great place to see a show. Get there early for floor or front row of balcony,.,. this place fills up fast.
Jannus Landing is a shithole,., one of the worst in the US.
And Revolution in Fort Lauderdale is a wonderful venue. I've seen several acts (among them Dio, Black Crowes, Slayer) and love the sight lines,.,.
but,., the side speakers (not talking about Fire Woman..) are spread distant, making vocals a bit hard to hear unless you're 10+ people back. It is
an outdoor venue.
http://www.jointherevolution.net/
I'm down for HOB and Revolution (25 minutes from mi casa).
Don't know if I'll do Jannus again.
The renovated new website,., let's give it a couple of weeks and see what kind of immigration arrives and what gets spoken.
That will surely tell who leaves as well.
It was a shame, from my POV, to think that The CULT was defined in 2007 by the white & purple mess of (mostly) dumbasses who co-habitated in the
cellar and spewed blather on the walls.

I don’t know, I’m pretty much on the fence about the new site. While I think there’s merit to Homer and Mike’s complaints about the pre-redesign
official site, I think it's a little overblown. Sure, there was no shortage of stupid, pointless discussion about Ian’s hair or trousers, and george
was always good for a “Grape Nuts: no grapes, no nuts. Discuss”, but there was also some pretty good discussion driven by vets like me, Windmill, Ed,
Jay, Ward, JRoberto, Snake and others. Truthfully, there aren’t more than a handful of people who post here who don’t also post there, and the info
found there was by far the most current. Also, when you think about it, life in this day and age can pretty much be wholly characterized by the act of
parsing thorough massive amounts of b.s. to get to the few bits of information that are useful and interesting. Television, radio, the web, magazines,
etc. all require this skill, and if we aren’t willing to do it, we’ll never do anything. I found it easy enough to sidestep the sideshow to make the
experience worthwhile.
The new official site certainly looks better, but it’s buggy as hell, and I think it was a massive mistake to not carry over the posts from the
previous board. By trashing that board, they dumped a year-and-a-half of tour diaries, photos, reviews and lot of the “Peace” vs. “Electric”
groundwork that was already out of the way. Without that, we’re back to “What’s your favorite album”, and I’m inclined to think that Homer’s right
that it’s not worth going through all that again. We’ll see, but I also can't help but feel that the best way to elevate the conversation is to have
our best and brightest participate, not obstain.

Considering I now have 2 accounts at the new board, and can't log in with either one, because neither has been activated yet, they can pretty much go
suck it as far as I'm concerned.
The only reason I'm here is to make catty observations and rude remarks

the message board has been cut (or maybe pruned) back to only a hand full of topics...which will concentrate the mind ever more into a control
state...something i will not partake in...
yeah i know...much to the relief of all those deadly serious posters who live for the Cult.

I agree; it was a huge (no pun intended with George) mistake to toss all of the live show reviews, in particular. I think the site still has a lot of
value and look to it as a key source of new information, albeit buried in between other nonsense. But, I am sure it will get better once the shows
start, and people start posting setlists, pics and reviews. I know I will do my part, and you're probably right: the best way to deal with the bs
is to participate and add more appealing points. It's a pretty exciting time, with a new album, and new tour about to start--we've all been waiting
for all of that for a long time.

You're all right about the show reviews and pix.
You're also all right about the people.
Except for andrea over there,., you're spot on: I'm a snob. Get used to it.
See,., with the 'official' site, people like myself have made the conscious decision to stay off and be entertained (or appalled) by the show. I do
look in from time to time, but I have nothing to add there,., the place speaks for itself by the atmosphere presented by the webmaster and the songs
sung by the congregation.
After the album drops and the tour is over,., will the 'official' site even be relevant.,,. updated,., new merch? Will it still be there in 2009?
Will there ever be a months-long string of trivia like we had here,., and gatherings of 'regulars' like we who have been on board with Jon's site
for +10 years?

yea man - the party is always here. don't really like the official site that much, seems like it doesnt give much and lost opportunities abound, such
as messages, audio, visual, specials for the thru fans etc.. they know we'll take any scraps that they throw us. seems scant really, but did enjoy
the old forum and it is a dissappointment that its been quashed...forums are sometimes read months, even years after the post date. lets not be too
hard on anyone new in the forums asking about ian's jeans or socks, i mean, we all had to start somewhere to get into the tribe for real.
by the way - i guess there isnt going to be a video for DLR?
and i guess the australian release date will be 2nd Oct?
cheers friends (i love this site)

ok - i may have spoken a little to soon.
i don't know what the hell is going on over there today, but it's a bit orwellian for my taste.
*opens mouth & gently removes foot*
this is an important time for the band & new fans are coming to the official forum looking for info. i guess i just feel that if the site is
abandoned by the long-term fans who possess relevant insight into the music, then the silliness wins and the newbies lose. anywho, no hard
feelings....

I don't know what the hell is going on over there either. I've registered with no problem but didn't attempt to log in or post, yet. With the way
things are going I will not post until after the 2nd October.
I like george. He's always asking to learn more about The Cult and reaching out for others to share their personal views. I imagine him to behave
like the wrestler who used to chase after Mz Elizabeth. Keeps it fun that way. No offense intended.
Old, new, silly, serious. Diversity is good.
Too bad it feels like there's been an issue to muzzle the wolfchildren and an order de-claw the big cats.
"drop your front baby, obey the command"
This too will pass in time.
And the monkies will still fling poop.

FFS.
I don't know WTF is going on either. I posted 2 reviews. 1 from Kerrang which wasn't overly positive (still rated as "good" tho), one from Record
Collector that was more positive ("excellent"). The Kerrang one was deleted. If you want to read it then it's in the review section here. Pi**ed me
off that there is a review section but seems you can only post positive things - I was assuming a review is a review. As much as I have tried and
persevered, got totally disillusioned, gone away and occasionally popped back and tried to contribute I think I am now officially done there. I think
fan forums are best served on fan sites anyway like here and Jon's.
Such a shame that at a time that there is so much good stuff going on (tour, album) that there is such disillusionment in the camp.
Let's look forward to more "pink" and focus on the good stuff now, what do you say ?
